tour of N & S America once I get JK question
I am planning to tour N & S America (for starters) once I get my new JK 4 door (4x4.)
I plan on 1.) Pulling a 10-16' camper or 2.) Using small but ample motor home to pull the JK.
With all amneties equal and any and all issues pertaining to power resolved, which would you rather do and why.....drive the JK pull the camper or drive the motor home pull the JK?

After weighing responses from another forum, I am leaning toward the camper route. If I do go that way, I will get an old vintage one. For me, nothing would be more cool than kicking back, JK loaded with me, my dog and camper in tow!! Let me know if you've got friends, family, or neighbors that might have an old 12'-18' camper for sale (must have shower & AC.)

Pulling the camper you are going to be using A LOT of extra gas. Have you considered ways of carrying back-up fuel with you? I don't know how far north or south you plan on venturing, but the roads can get pretty bad. If at all possible, which I know it isn't, I would recommend doing this trip with two vehicles. One pulling the camper, and the other along for the ride. I have driven Mexico and Canada, but neither for long periods of time. During the Mexico trip, we had two cars and four people. Plan on car jackings, and hope for the best!
Good luck with your trip. It is one in a million. Wish I could go.

Dude you got some serious balls if you do this. A trip like that alone pulling a camper with a jeep. I think pulling a small pop up or hard side is the best way to go but I also think there is a lot that can go wrong not including those guys with guns once you go south. I would recomend making the trip in a small group with several vehicles one pulling a trailer with parts if you can. If not the more people with you the better don't do it alone especially once you go south of the border.

If you do this, buy an old vehicle and take a few machine guns. Do NOT take a new JK south of the border, as you will be stuck with a camper only.
Why not tour the US with your JK and camper, then head south of the border with an old clunker with spare parts. There was a story in a magazine about some brothers that went from Alaska to Panama Canal. They did it in an old suburban I believe that was easily fixed. They skied and surfed their way down the coast and is sounded like a very cool trip.
