Default tough tire question

I live outside Chicago, I have a 2.5" lift, and i'm debating how to buy my tires. I don't know if I should buy 35/1250/17s with my stock aluminum rims, or should I buy 15" rims and get 35/1250/15s? I am going to buy the Discount Tire warranty with these also. My Jeep is black, and I would like the black rims. I may be answering my own question here, but if I buy the bigger tire I could always purchase the black rims later I guess. I am leaning toward the Goodyear M/T Kevlar. Because of where i live. Does anyone have any input or experience they could add? Thanks.

Do you have wheel spacers currently? If not you are looking at another $200.00 to add spacers to your stock rims & new tires. I am thinking your cheaper route would be going 15's with the proper backspaced rim. You can use the stock rims for a set of winter tires and have a two set rotation for winter/summer which will extend your M/T tires life and no extra cost of flopping winters/M/T's. Also, having 2 sets of rims will allow the salt/sand trash your stock rims vs aftermarket rims in the winter months.

Not sure if I would buy kevlars for chicago. Kinda a waste of a tire for pavement.

For the $50 difference between 15 and 17 inch rims I would go with the 17, tires will be much easier and cheaper than 15 inch wheels, more wheel less tire will save you money!

I went to 15 inch rims with 35s and they were cheaper then buying 35s for 17 inch rims and wheel spacers. Plus I like the look of more sidewall and its also more functional when off road. I got 5 rims with 35 inch kevlars for 1600 and change from discount tire

I would go with 17's. May cost more, but you will have more tire choices, and to me the 17" just looks better on a JK.

I would go with an AT tire like the Goddyear Duratrac's or wine of the sister tires from Fierce or Kelly. The new Dick Cepek Fun Country look like a promising tire and you can get them in a D rated 35" tire. I would avoid a E rated tire from any manufacturer. If you do stay on a 15" wheel the cooper set are a real good off road tire albeit a bit noisy on the road.

I mean it doesn't make sense to run a super aggressive mud terrain tire that needs frequent rotation and can have balancing issues on the pavement where the life of the rather expensive tire will be shortened. Its not like you have a lot of wheeling in Chicago, and that one shitty little place you have up there is rater mild except for a couple of nasty washouts.

I think I'm gonna go with the Mickey M/T Baja. 35/1250/15. There just tires, right?
