Default Torn Apart. Jk or Tacoma ?

So, I'm torn between these 2 Vehicles... (check Intoduction)

A tundra, the most I would do to it (double cab 4x4) is change the tires with better beaffer tires later on

A Jeep?(4x4 unlimited X)...Tires, lift...bumper..top..ah...the fun.

Anyway the Main deciding factors are

MPG
Insurance

What kind of insurance Can I expect with a 2008/9 JK, 4x4 Unlimited
20 yrs old, no tickets, never owned a car before (but I drive for a living), good credit, single.
Any body out there like me? - How much do you pay?

And MPG, I know, I know. Its a brick on wheels. but I ain't made of money.
What can I expect with 3.73 gears, 3" lift and 35" tires?

I was looking into the Rubicon just because the 08-09 models only offer the 4.10 gears on the Ruby...thats the only reason, would it be cheaper to re-gear later on?

I'm trying to convince myself into a JK so help me out!

I bought my '08 rubicon unlimited in Jan 08. Only put 3,500 miles on it so far. It's a great vehicle but does promote the mod bug. I've done all mods myself - BB 2.5" lift, front bumper mod, adj track bars, bikini top, wrap around etc. You can do a lot of things on a fairly tight budget.

By all means, it is a lead sled, so don't look here for performance. But if 4x4 appeals, I'd say the jeep is the 'real' way to go.

I get 15.8 to 16.2 mpg like clockwork (actual measure), doing about 75/25 % city / short hwy travelling.

As far as insurance, I have a 2006 fx 35, 2004 bmw 325 conv., and a 2008 Rubicon. My 6 mo premiums are $212, $275, and $254 respectively. I'm much older, but does give you a frame of reference.

Lightbulb ??????

Are you nuts?

Get the Unlimited.

Next, Tacoma's and Tundras are different trucks.

I have owned four Tacomas 2 4cyl 5 speeds, 1 v6 auto, 1v6 5 speed,....... and and my dad had a 2002 Tundra extracab V8 auto. ALL were 4x4's. The most MPG drivetrain was in the regular cab 4 cylinder 5 speed manual tranny Tacomas with a best of maybe 19 to 20 MPG highway.

My 2 door Rubicon 6 speed manual gets 20-22 MPG highway.

And when I say Highway I mean 65 MPH.

As for insurance if you are in the US military check out USAA. Best and cheapest you can get IF you are a good driver.

I went from a 2006 Tundra double cab to a 2008 2dr X. I can't tell you exactly what my insurance is but I do remember it was almost the same when I changed vehicles.
Only you can make the decision between the 2. I have had a 98 ext cab tacoma V6 4x4, 2002 limited ext cab tundra 4x4, and a 2006 double cab tundra 4x4. My plan is to get another tundra full 4 door and keep the JK.

I have a 05 Tacoma Double Cab TRD Sport and I love it! I also have my 08 Rubicon 2-door and Love it too! I do got to say, that I never would take me Tacoma MOST of the places I take the JK, or even try to! The JK is my new baby, but I still got love for the Tacoma. What can I say, I am a Lexus Tech, born Toyota... But I will not drive a FJ crusier!!

JK all the way. I love new the Tacomas, but unless you need the truck bed, it's not worth it. The JK is more fun to drive, smaller, and more capable offroad (again, more fun). For practicality, a pickup is handy, but at the same time the JK has a lot more internal (dry) space.

Plus, JK means you can go topless! The JK is my first convertable, and every time I drive with the top down, I absolutely love it

I almost bought an Audi A4 Avant before I bought the JK. Looking back, the way I see it:

In my JK, I can:
-Drive offroad more places (even stock) than any other vehicle.
-Drive with the top down, doors off.
-Get from A to B.
-Make the JK my own, mod it, love it more.
-Tow a trailer (only a plus vs a car).
-Be a part of the Jeep club

With any other vehicle:
-The drive might be more comfortable.
-I might get better gas mileage.
-In the end, it's just getting from A to B.

I'm so glad I didn't spend $30k+ on a vehicle that can't do everything my JK can do

Test drive both. Let us know how the salesman reacts to you removing the roof and doors on the Tacoma.
