A come along with a winch recovery kit works well if you have not got your winch yet. Be sure you have heavy gloves and a tree strap. A shovel has helped me out more than once. I always made sure that I had a tow strap, extra food, warm clothing, matches, toilet paper, the usual stuff. I also always had a US Army Survival Guide, and a 4X4 hints guide guide book that had cool info in it like how to make a sand anchor out of your spare tire and other useful stuff. I have violated a major safety rule over and over again. I have gone out alone. I was not totally a dork about it, though. I left detailed notes of my route, eta out of the woods, and I always had my CB and cell phone.

Man I miss being out there!

I always had a "stock" kit I carried every day in my Tuffy Box and an "adventure" kit that varied according to the terrain and location I was wheeling in. A ham radio has better range than a CB and will usually connect in places a cell phone cannot. The single most important thing to bring has to be "common sense" earned by respectfully watching others with more experience and following their advice or "taking your lumps" and learning the hard way.

IMO a bigger "hunting knife" is MUCH more useful..a fixed blade full tang knife wil prove to be a much more useful tool than the toothpick and tweezers :] LOL

but you know what....your in a jeep not backpacking....so CARRY BOTH!! lol

hmm lemme see:
dont drive around in 4-lo because you feel cool LOL
DONT drive into anything you dont scout out first or know.(ie common sense)
DONT go 40 into a mud hole (personal experience LOL)
DONT diss another mans/womans jeep. (unless it has"dubs" :] )

thats all i can think of
WOODSMANS PAL is the best, always has been the best(started in Norway with Rovers) offroad jeepin, road clearing, firewood gettin tool.. Oh and cuts snakes heads off too..!! I have one from WW2 with the metal sheath..
