Default Tire Pressure concern

I have done a search and can't find an answer, so I'm hoping you can put my mind at ease.

Reading a little on tires and pressure, I have found that tires come in LT Metric and P metric. LT metric run at higher pressure ie. 60 psi vs. 35psi. I also have learned that running tires at low pressure causes extreme heat on the tire and early failure including blowouts.

Now for the question....I have Nitto Terra Grapplers 285/75/16 and have been running them at 33, anything higher and I would need a better dental plan. They are suppose to be run at 60.....am I risking a tire blowout?

I do allot of highway driving and just want to make sure I am not giving my wife my life insurance too early. Thanks for any help here.

This has been debated before with various opinions. Mine is that yes, LT tires are designed to run higher pressures, but are rated at much higher loads and have heavier construction to compensate. If you aren't running anywhere near the maximum load rating, you don't need that much air pressure to maintain a safe temperature. I have no scientific evidence to back this up, just basic logic. I guess I could be wrong...
