You`ve just spun your tire on something and cut the treads. A tire is usually made in a mold which will leave a seam in the tire. If a tire splits this would be a likely place. Another place is where the rubber sheets that form a "green" tire meet which would be across the tire from side to side. The only way that your tire would be splitting in the area of the cut is if the rubber compund was splitting and the likelyhood of that is very low.

As an ex- tire warranty claims specialist for the largest tire distributor in the US, that is not a warranty issue. As other have stated, that appears to be from spinning on a rock or other obstacle. I can tell from the front lug edge chipping, that they have seen their fair share of off-road use. And yes, good luck with a warranty claim from Mickey T. Also, if you should decide to send it off, (and you shouldn't) you'll be paying freight both ways and be out of a tire for a LONGGGGGG time. Good luck.

Before I looked at all the pictures and saw your sig I thought you were driving on the stock Bridgestone Duelers. In that case, I would say that they're not defective, just pieces of sh!t. Haven't even had the Jeep for 8 months yet and I've already been through 3 of those bastids. All non-offroading incidents, may I add.
