35% is the darkest legal for front windows in a lot of states. You can get darker in rear because you don't look through them consistently. Im going 35 or 40% for my front when it gets hotter around here.

Anyone have any luck with diy tinting? The front door glass seems pretty flat, so i don;t think a heat gun wold be necessary to make the tint look right. i was quoted $80 to tint my front door windows... from the same place that tinted all 7 windows of my wrx wagon for $185.
Someone posted about using tintzoom.com on the thread below.

the next question would be which tint to get... i am planning on emailing them to see what they recommend. for their basic tint it would be $15 + shipping for the film. It is more for either metalized or nano ceramic.

Legality all depends on the state that you are in. Had my front windows tinted to match the rear and soft top windows, my buddy owns a tint-shop and used his light density tester (whatever you wanna call it), measures the amount of light that passes through the film and came back at 26%, that is why 20% will appear to be the closest match, as they are a dipped tinting rather than film application. Because of this they will always look different from the inside, but outside will be virtually identical unless you are looking through the jeep (one side to the other through closed doors), will be the only time you would see a difference.

I don't know what legal is in Florida...I think it's around 28-30% or something but I'm running 5% on-top of my factory tint rear windows which were about 46-50% already, 5% tint on the two front windows (drivers/passenger) and 30% on the windshield with a 5% strip running along the top. Needless to say my JK is dark.
