Default Time for another Jeep

Well guys, after trading in my 2010 2dr two years ago for a 2014 370Z, I'm ready to get back into a new Jeep! ...Unlimited this time around. Something that has crossed my mind; with the release of the new Wrangler coming in the near future, would buying a 2016 be a bad idea from a resale perspective? I know Jeeps hold their value extremely well, I just don't want to buy a new wrangler and then it depreciate excessively as a result of the 2018 model's release. What do you guys think?

I think it doesn't really matter much either way. TJ values didn't plummet once the JK came out. They're even going to produce the JK and JL simultaneously for 6 months once the JL goes into production

Agree... Look at TJ, YJ, or even CJ pricing. Wranglers/CJs have always held their value. Unless the new JL is the most awesome thing ever built, a nice thought, but highly unlikely because is being overseen by FCA, you should be okay.

If you are concerned, since it is a 2018 model, very likely they will unveil it early next year (Maybe at Detroit auto show?). You might consider waiting for 6-8months.

Do your homework on gearing. If you have a choice, insist on 3.73 rear (if it's not a rubicon).

Would you really want to get a completely redesigned first year vehicle?

I'v come to lean that the first year they come out with a new model. It is almost always full of quirks and issues. Unless it comes with Coil-overs on all 4 corners 35" tires, Williwood brakes, hydro assist steering and a long arm suspension. Count me out. I personally think over a year to wait for the new Jeep. Think of all the fun your going to have in that year.

They recently announced that the new Wrangler will come with a small 4 cylinder engine. JK resale value will be fine.

Who cares about the horse power, just give me the torque rating.

let's be clear: Chrysler/fiat have not announced this engine for any imminent model year. Correct me if I am wrong. This link is by no means an announcement. Let's not start rumors. How many times has the rumor mill said the next year will include a diesel, or the next year will include independent suspension, or the next year will .......
