Thefts of JKs and JK parts on the rise.
Sorry for posting this in stock, please move as necessary. My girlfriend works for the Mont Co Police here in MD and late last week, a fellow JK owner had his Jeep stolen. I don't know this person and don't know if he's a member of the board. I tend to doubt it as nothing's been said about it.
Anyway, the reason I'm posting is because the officer who took the report said that at least in the MD/DC area JKs and their parts are getting very popular for thieves. With the ease of removing things from our Jeeps, and their current popularity, I can see why. I hadn't given much thought to a hood look and from the posts here, seems like they're not real effective or attractive, but I'd hate for someone just to open up my hood, take my Airaid, etc.
Just thought I'd tell you guys and while the information might not do any of us any good and hopefully it won't ever be a problem for anyone here, thought I'd pass it along.
Edit: Before anyone asks, I do not have any statistics on this, I'm just going on what the officer said. Thanks.

And one of the hottest new vehiles too. SEMA did an article on a CarGurus.com pole that showed the JK to be the most popular mid-year make and model in 2007. Number 2 was the Ford Mustang, 3 was the Toyota Camary, 4 was the Honda Accord and 5 was the Toyota Tundra. Needless to say, hot cars are unfortunately hot targets for theives

Won't it lock up if it's swiped? I used to put a piece of black textured plastic w/velcro on the corners over the flat face radios I've had, if you do it right it looks like radio delete.

i always worry about my factory bumpers being stolen. they're so nice looking and extremely functional that i can see why thieves would want them.
on a serious note though. the only thing i worry about it my wheels and tires so i have locks on them. and i guess windows. but who would want scratched up clear window????

I wish someone would steal my front and rear factory bumper....but leave the rest of the Jeep intact. I would be willing to take the $$$ from insurance and re-invest it in the US economy on a new non factory front and rear bumper from shrockworks, or.....

I agree ... heck, I wouldnt even turn it in to my insurance. I would just be happy to have an excuse, that my fiance would accept, to replace the bumpers!

But wouldnt that raise your insurance $$?
