Hey gump9005, I'am down the road from you in Keizer. In Feb 2009 I was in your shoe's by a Rubicon Unlimited or a X Unlimited. Both had the standard soft top . The Rubi was an Auto the X had a 6 speed. After test driving both I choose the X it had only 3 option's carpet mat , 368 watt 6-Speaker Infinity Sound Sys With Subwoofer , and Tow package with 3.73 gear's . Like you the Rubi was at the high end of what I could. $10,000.00 more than I could afford. Needless to say I went with the X Unlimited. Over the past 2 year's 5 month's I have modded my Jeep the way I want it to be. It's my daily driver also. I have had NO REGERT'S NOT GETTING THAT RUBICON. Don't by what you can't afford. Their are more X/Sport's and Sahara's around are neck of the wood's than their are Rubicon's.

Two votes to go for the Rubi.

For getting stock/warrantied versions of better springs, struts, sway bar disconnects, larger rims and tires, and etc. get a Rubicon for sure. It's sweet.

Not gonna happen unless it comes down to money. Got mine 1year ago got 20k miles! Only complaint is in 4pm 1st gear is useless unless crawling. That said I would not have anything else unless it had a hemi.

I started off looking at a new Rubicon last year, but inflated stickers with tons of options turned me away from a new Rubi. On top of that, I knew that the 3.8 was too anemic for an automatic, which nearly every Rubicon I looked at had.

So I started looking at the other Wranglers. I finally settled on a 17K mile used Rubicon with the exact options I wanted (Steel Blue, 6 speed, tow package, dual tops, and Infinity stereo) for less than a stripped new Jeep. As a matter of fact, I only paid $750 over high trade for my Rubicon. I was pricing Rubi's like mine for $8K more and found mine a couple of hours away.

Take your time and take a LONG look around, chances are you will find the exact Jeep you want. It took me a while to find it, but I am super satisfied with my choice.

I opted to go with the Rubi and hold off on the mods for a while. I wanted the axles and T-case.

I know I would have regretted not getting the Rubi which would have caused me to get rid of it sooner than later.

Just bought a 2.5 TF Coil Lift today from Northern4x4 and like another poster resonded it will sit in my garage until I can afford to purchase spacers and 35's., eventually replacing the Rubi Rims with Rock Stars...

Good Luck!!

Get what you can afford. We all want the top of the line but sometimes we have to look at the long hall and be realistic about it. What happens if you loose your job, get in an accident and not able to work for a few months? I would love a new rubi, but realistically, I can get a used 08 JKU non-rubi for about 20-22K and put the 15K extra the rubi would of cost on the mortgage.

Most of us are in the same boat. That $500 a month payment comes around too soon and too often!

If its a payment thing, does the 0% for 60 months announced today help get you into the Rubicon?
