I say sport. Sounds like a JK with a BB and some 33s will meet all your offroad needs. If the price difference was less than 5k I would change my mind.

Remember - Rubicon is specifically built and marketed for very low speed rock crawling, not general off-roading, "overland" use, baja, etc.

If you are not specifically rock crawling at very low speeds on a regular basis, save the $$ and put it where it will affect you on a frequent basis.

Buy the Rubi, if that doubt is in your mind, you'll never be happy! I did that in the past and always thought down the road, wish I would have bought what I wanted.

what do you mean afford? you mean your financed monthly payment is too high? or the cash in your savings isnt there yet?

if $100 a month extra a month if breaking the bank, im thinking you should rethink a couple things. if you are going to second guess anything at all, you will be happier with the rubi. but thats not saying you wont be happy with the sport. because lots of people love their non rubi's. including myself. but i do wish i bought a rubi

I love my Sahara. With all the mods I've done & plan on doing in the future, I'm saving money by not wasting taking off unused Rubicon parts I would've replaced. E-sway bar is overrated anyways. Other than a front d44, I'm all set

My wife drives her Rubi as a DD. We traded her '07 2dr Sahar for a '10 4dr Rubicon. She loves the Rubicon and I love it when I get to take it off road.

Nothing hotter than your wife driving an extremely capable Jeep!

I have a slightly different perspective than a lot of the previous posters. I wish I had gotten an even more base model that I did, since I just want to replace everything anyway.

A few more thoughts:
1. Since you say you don't expect to do a lot of wheelin, you will probably never utilize the things that make a Rubi a Rubi.

2. Since you've already found this forum, chances are you are going to want to mod everything, just like the rest of us do. No point in paying extra for stuff you're just going to replace (i.e. tires)

When I bought my Jeep in 08, my wife and I talked about it. I could have got a Rubicon and kept it stock or an X and Mod it.

I driving an X with 3" lift, 35's (soon to be 37's with Bushwackers) Lod bumpers front and rear, Shrockworks Rock Rails and loads of smaller stuff.

The only thing I wish I did was order it with Dana 44's and lockers.

Go with the sport. It will take you anywhere you want to go. I have no regrets buying an X and with all the mods, still cheaper than a rubi. Of course i got a great deal on the stock X to start with. Bought it used w/25k on it for 19k and spent another 8-9 on it so I'm not complaining.
