Default Super charged 2011 or 2012, what would you do?

Here is the dilemma. I was hanging out with the owner of the local dealership were I bought my Jeep and he asked me how I liked my 2011. I told him it was great but I might need to super charge it when I get my trailer done just to have enough power to easily pull it. He really isn't a car guy much less a follower of the Jeep Wrangler. I had to tell him about the new engine in the 2012. He said that he would take my Jeep in on trade (of course) for the 2012.

Here's the deal. I have about 13000 miles on mine. He said if I pulled off all of my extra "stuff" and it was back to stock, he would trade me for around $3500. He would let me take the new Jeep home and switch the parts from my 2011 to the '12. It would probably be closer to $4000 when it was all said and done.

What would you rather have, a super charged 2011 or the 2012?

Just some thoughts on the pros and cons.

I don't think any programmers are currently available for the 2011 model year. Ripp uses Diablo Motor Sports, and even though some magazines might advertise it as being available for the 2011, it isn't.

I work with a guy that used to be a programmer at Diablo, and he says it is only a matter of time. Things changed on the 2011 ECU's and it will take time to reverse-engineer them. But the fact is, you can't put a supercharger on a 2011 right now.

On the other hand, who knows what changes the 2012 will bring. One of the downsides of buying a new model year is that it takes a while for the after market vendors to get their hands on the new model, so a lot of after market parts might not fit and may need to be redesigned.

So a wait and see attitude might be the best. Once the new model is out, a lot more info will be available. By then, programmers will be available for the 2011, and you can make an informed decision.

My jeep is like new. I spoke to Ripp and they said maybe late June. The 2012 is the same Jeep with a different drivetrain as far as I know. The benefit would be the extra power, thats about it.

The dealer told me to pick a color and what options I liked and he would order it for the dealership. If I liked it, I could trade. If not, not harm done.

Another sad case thread about Shiney Ball Syndrom! If you tow with your JK as long as you tow within the allowed weight range it should do an adequate job....ive towed with mine an have had no problems.
Who in their right mind would trade an 11 for a 12? If you wanna throw away cash mail it to me!!!!!

I don't know about your shiny balls but this is just a question about a power upgrade. Looking at your Jeep upgrades and mine, we have crossed the point of need into the world of want. I want either a super charger or the new engine in the 2012, not because my Jeep can't pull a trailer but because I want it to pull it better. Having cleared that up, what is the better "upgrade" ? Thats the question I wanted to through out there.

$4000 to trade up a year and loose the 13000 miles. New motor and transmission. I probably trade too often, about every 3 years or so. I think it sounds like a very fair deal. Keep in mind that the prices on the 2102s also increased. I say go for it. Still going to be cheaper than supercharging your 2011.

I will be trading my 2008 on a 2012. Hope I can find a dealer as generous as your's.

Get the 2012. A tuned 2012 will make close to the same horsepower as a supercharged 3.8L, is brand new will a full warranty, and will retain full resale value.

I was going to wait but my local dealership had the black on black Rubicon I wanted as a 2011. I had paid off my 2006 LJ and it had low mileage so I got a good price for it. I drove the 2011 and it was comfy and exactly what I was looking for so I bought it.

I am guessing they gave me too much for my 2006 LJ because it has been on their used lot for over two months and it is pretty clean. I took off all the banged up skid plates and put the factory stuff back on. It is back to stock except for the Trektop, rear bumper, and the winch. The original hard top got crushed when the storage unit it was in collapsed. I needed a hitch receiver so I just bought a bumper with one in it. The winch was a $50 barn find that I just had to rewire. Maybe no one likes the Trektop.

I figured in about 3 years I will trade in the 2011 on a new Wrangler. Any drive train issues should have surfaced by then. Although with what they are putting in the 2012, I don't expect there to be any issues. Maybe by then I will just work with AEV and order a customized Wrangler and finance the whole thing.

Here's a pic of it at the dealership.
