Stupid TPMS!!!!
Ok, the idiot light has been on and buggin me long enough that I decided to do something about it. The light came on when it started getting colder, which I anticipated would probably happen. So I bumped up the pressure in each tire to 34-35 lbs, the light stayed on. So then I read another thread about doing the spare tire too, so thanks to whoever put that info out, I hadn't thought of it. So yesterday I check the spare and bump it up to 36 lbs, aong with the rest of the tires up to 36. Light went off for a day, now it's back on. The temps have dropped to the teens and single digits since I last did this, but it shouldn't affect the pressures that much to where it trips the sensor.
Does anyone know at what pressure the sensor is supposed to trip? I wouldn't think 2-3 pounds would trip it, but maybe I am wrong. Also, have any of the electronics guru's here figured out which wire goes to the dash light for the TPMS system so another (i.e. ESP, Lockers) toggle switch can be installed somewhere? THAT would be a great write up.

It is suppose to trip at 25% of the pressure that it is set for. I found that to be a little inaccurate on mine. Mine were set for 35psi and it would go off at 31 psi. I now have them set for 30psi and they don't trigger the alarm until 24psi

Assuming that there isn't a problem with the TPMS, can't you have your dealer fill your tires with Nitrogen? My brother told me about it as the gas doesn't expand and contract drastically like air. He had a problem in one of his cars with Tire Pressure Sensors and that solved it.
Just a thought....I think it costs like $100 or so.

A friend of mine sugested that we buy some heavy 4" PVC tubing and cut it about 6-10 inches long Drill 5 holes in it and install the TPM sensors in it. Then cap both ends of the PVC pipe. Air it up to 32 psi and stick it in the back, under the seat, or strap it under the Jeep.
At 32 psi there is realy no danger at all. I have PVC pipe feeding all the air supply at my shop and it is always at 100-130 psi.
Ok, I sugested this in another thread any many people thought it was a good idea. Others thought that it would not work because they said the tires have to spin to report preasure.
My question is , How does the spare tire report its preasure if not spinning?
I think my idea might work if the computer just takes a preasure sample every once in a while.
I plan on giving it a try this summer unless somebody else tests this out first.
I like to switch out my custom wheels (I dont have them yet) with my OEM wheels durring the winter months. Even if I spent the 200+ on 4 sensors for my new wheels I would still have to go to the dealer to have the sensors rematched to the computer everytime I swaped my tires/wheels.

Anyone know how to build a 315MHz FSK transmitter? We could solve the TPMS problems once and for all.

I am only running with 4 tires.. Spare removed for the last 1000 miles... Pressure set at 30psi and no light (yet). I don't know how often the spare should report, but it should have within 1000 miles.
