Stock Tire Carrier vs Pole
When I was backing out of a parking spot today a phone pole jumped behind the Jeep and I hit it with the spare tire . I was going less than 5 mph.
Have any of you guys done this but have a bumper/tire carrier? If you have did it cause any damage to the rear gate? Or did the carrier take the hit wifh no body damage? I am talking low speed. If no damage which bumper/carrier do you have? With the new bumper I hope this can be avoided as well as the deductable for the repair.

Last summer our JKU was kissed by a friend of our son at an intersection in a lifted Jeep. The stock tire carrier cracked the same as yours but the rear gate was undamaged. Cost of replacing the stock carrier easily justified the cost of a Rugged Ridge XHD rear bumper and Tire Carrier, especially with free shipping from Northridge 4x4. I believe the bumper will withstand the hit on this comboas will the carrier and carrier hingebut the carrier latch will be the weak link and I am not sure of the result.
Love the bumper and carrier but it hadn't occurred to me till now that the only thing preventing the carrier from swinging inward was the rubber bumpers on the gate and that latch. May have to fab a backing plate, similar to how french doors are weather proofed, to strengthen that joint.
It's got me curious how other manufacturers handle the carrier latch area.

Damn those sneaky telephone poles!
Hopefully insurance will help you get a nice bumper w/ tire carrier. I have heard great things about Pure Jeep tire carrier bumpers. Personally I went with a non-carrier bumper and plan to install an OR-FAB swing away carrier later.
Decisions, decisions......

I just put on the rock hard... It's def is built well... Powder coating I am sure will need some attention in the years come.... The tire carrier does sit pretty far from the door.. Time will tell how it holds up
