Default Spacers

Got a noob question....

What exactly are wheel spacers for? Are they for clearance when mounting large tires?

Sorry for the dumb question...this is all new to me.

Spacers are an alternative to buying wheels with less back spacing. Stock wheels have about 6.25" of back spacing. If you install wider tires, such as 285/70-17s, they will probably rub on the front sway bar at full steering lock. Spacers move the wheels out from the hub, providing clearance for the wider tires.

A set of 1.5" spacers provides the equivalent of having 4.75" of back space.

I run the factory Moab wheels, with 1.5" Spidertrax spacers and 285/70-17 Cooper ST tires.

Here's my JK about a week after I took delivery, and nearly two years later with spacers and the bigger/wider tires. The wider stance (track) is very obvious.

Did you take it to the dealer for service , did they say anything about warranty?

When I had mine in for a trans replacement. The guys asked me what I did to make the stance like that. They all thought it looked better and told me thats how it should come from the factory.

Not every dealer is the same though..

I'm tempted but I don't want any warranty issues.

Spacers on stock wheels and tires on my 09 UX made a drivable difference, wider stance is noticable in windy highway speeds. worth the investment.

Discuss it with your dealer's service manager. Most will tell you that it's no problem for them...

I'm moving in the spacer direction as a temporary way to put my 295/70/17 trail grapplers on without spending more cash for rims. my only concern has been with driving them 35 miles to work on the highway... is this a BS concern? any issues with loosening and having a tire come off?

Looking at these...
