It wouldn't be the first 4 banger wrangler, but it would be the first factory turbo gas engine. The downside for turbos is that you have to be much more diligent with the maintenance and failures tend to be spectacular. I worry how a high temp turbo would like being splashed in cold icy water of the winter trails.

Before people cry "low end torque" it is a twin scroll turbo meaning if they were to tune it right they would have fairly minimal turbo lag. I could see it being an option but I'm sure they'll stick with the Pentastar for a bit longer. It'll probably launch with the 2nd gen Pentastar if anything.

To me adding turbos to a 4 banger is a lot like overclocking your computer....damn if it isn't sweet but longevity becomes an issue.

How bout a turbo diesel? Best of both worlds 🤔 I could get on board with that.

I can see it now people are going to turn up the boost and wonder why their engine blew up. I'm sticking with N/A

You really want a JK with 100 less hp and less torque at every RPM than either the current Pentastar or the Hurricane turbo 4?

And like 11mpg?

And that engine is hardly bulletproof. Man, it's unbelievable the way we so fondly look back on old things just because they are old.

Actually, they are considering a diesel option the same year of the release of the Turbo inline 4 banger. I read the same article the original poster read yesterday. Word is it will be he same 3.0 CRD that is currently offered in the Grand Cherokee and Dodge ram 1500. I said i'd never trade my JK, but if they introduce a diesel version at an affordable price, I would reconsider.

It just seems like the old 4.0 was more powerful. I don't know if the Jeep was lighter or what, but I could smoke my tires in the TJ and XJ. I can't even get a bark out of the JK's tires. I also never had any issues other than an oil leak from the valve covers with the 4.0.
