A locking lug for the spare is the first accessory I bought for my new Jeep. Partly because I'm a paranoid old phart, and partly because ...

I test-drove an '07 my dealer had on the lot before deciding in November if I wanted a Wrangler. I looked at the back, and asked the salesman why there was no spare. He said someone had hit the lot earlier that month and stolen every externally mounted spare.

So I figured if thieves will swipe dozens at a time from a well-lit lot, nothing's stopping someone from swiping mine from my driveway.

hmm.. wow, so is this something that happens often? not just among jeeps but any car with a tire on the back? I always kind of wondered about that.

Is it the wheel locks that you want to have to keep em secure? or for the back tire do those hard plastic spare tire cases do the trick too?

That must really suck for a dealership too, come in one morning and all the spares are gone...

gorilla locking lugs come in a set of 5!

i have 5 stock X wheels and tires. They are unmounted. You said you would take 5. Ill sell them REALLY cheap for 5 with less that 3k miles on them. Shipping from GA to CA might suck but if your interested let me know, i have pictures.

When I picked up my JK before I even left the lot I made sure to buy and install the locking lug nuts.....some people out there have no concern for others. Some people don't realize that people have to work hard to have toys....

If you're thinking of upgrading to larger tires down the road, including the spare, you should look into the bestop highrock tire carrier. Bolts up to to where the stock carrier goes but adds more support and you can lock it with a padlock.
