Default So disappointed in my mpg even with low expectations!

Currently have just over 3k miles on my jeep and drove it 725mi to my in-laws. I was hoping for like 17-18mpg on the highway.

I hand calculated my mpg and checked my speed with gps. Going 71mph I was getting about 14.1mpg, tried a tank of 93 oct and it went up to 14.7. Those are all highway miles but even my mpg in town is really close at 13.8 ish. Any one have any thoughts as to why it's that low. I wouldnt think my 285's and leveling kit would kill it that much.

Almost all of the MPG threads have mileage that varies widely. I traded in my truck for the jeep because of the increase in MPG. My expectations were around 15 MPG, compared to the 10 i was getting, and so far the panel indicator says between 19-21 MPG with mixed driving. Actual calculated mileage was about 18.5 for my first tank and I am completely stock. My guess is the guys on here will say check your tire pressure, slow down, and try a tuner. I would really like to know why it is so inconsistent even for stock jeeps. Gears maybe, I have 4.10's w/ a 6spd. What about you?

Must be your driving style or uphill into the wind most of the way cause I get better than 14 city on 35s. I used to get 20 hwy stock.

I had the same issue when I went to my Duratrac 285's. I went down to 14-15 mpg from the 19-20 on the stocks. I got the AEV Procal and did the tire size change. I noticed a significant increase in gas mileage and my shift points were more accurate. I just did a 400 mile round trip to Mohegan Sun last week and actually got 20 MPG. That was by checking it manually. The one on the dash estimated 21 MPG. I was averaging between 65 to 70 MPH most of the time.

I have an auto, run my tires at 35 psi, and the drive was a mix of hills and flats. As for the procal, I used my gps and my speed is within 1mph so my computer is reading pretty close. Only thing it might do is fix my shift points for the larger tires. Oh, my rpm's were just above the Eco at like 2650ish I think.

Took a 1200 mile round trip for Thanksgiving in my '12 JKU. The trip was a mixture of flat land, hills and mountians. Averaged 15.8 (hand calculated) with 33" Mickey T's. Not sure what the difference would be, just thought I would post my results.

OP, what gearing are you running? Just curious, I'm running the stock 3.21's.

I'm lucky to get 16 around town, might get a mile more on the highway and seems to do better at 65-70, which make little sense. 93 octane helps another .5 and responds much better. If I shift manually and wind it up a bit it does a little better, but that gets old. Wish I could adjust shift points, especially from 2nd to 3rd.

My kids 11 Sport auto w/ 3.73 gets around 19 combined on regular chevron (much highway and runs about 65 otherwise babies it).

When you talk 14 or 15 it's kinda sad, at 19 or 20 it's much more palatable.

What can we really expect from a 4,500 lb brick tho??

I bet my lift doesn't help, bigger tires and the mpg will take a big shit I'm betting.

Someone should lower their rig and install some pizza cutters - see what happens.
