slashed window and dented shi*tty bumper

That's a rough day. Sorry to hear it.
My JK has the same problem with the bumper, noticed it today when thoroughly washing and waxing it. Don't know exactly when it happened, but probably when I parked in Boston to see a Sox game last week.
My YJ top was never slashed. The criminals that pilfered my CDs, stereos and other miscellaneous semi-valuables always seemed smart enough to bend back my half doors to get in. Mighty nice of them. The least that the crook should have done is use the zippered rear window to get in yours.

Sorry to hear about this. Mine suffered a collision with an idiot in the first week I had it. I was turn the jeep around in the street and a guy backed out of his driveway without looking. The bumper worked but it now looks like crap.
Yesterday, I had someone do me the favor of slamming my back gate against my back soft top rail (long story - see my post) but they managed to bend the metal of the back gate nicely.
I had a Suzuki Samurai which was regularly ransacked and stolen. Didn't matter there was nothing in it. Theives are opportunists. I would wear a hard top at all times or park in a garage if possible. There is nothing you can do to protect yourself from idiots.
