Default Shopping for JK Sahara - Need Advice

Hey guys,
I'm looking at JK Sahara two door models. I don't have any plans to do any hardcore offroading, just driving around my farm is the most extreme I imagine... mostly just for fun, not planning on modifying alot or anything like that.

I'm looking at two right now...
1. 2007 Sahara without power locks/windows (which I thought was standard on Sahara)... with 12k miles, extended warranty until 2012... Cold Air Intake is added.... but the ownernd is very young, a looks like he has had some fun... some pretty good stratches and some quarter sized dings... and a hail damaged hood... but seemed to drive fine. Softtop. Private seller. Price - $14.5k

2. 2008 Sahara - has power windows.... 11k miles, 20 months left on warranty, was a chrysler financial lease return. It is clean inside and out. Softtop. Dealership. No modifications. Price $17~$18k

What would you pay? Which one would you choose? I'm leaning towards the 2008 because it LOOKS cleaner, because I'm not sure what I would be looking at to replace the hood.... etc... I know it's difficult to know without seeing it, but any thoughts on your preference versus trying to fix the dings and scratches and hood by your self.

Thanks!

I have a 2007 Sahara and I was told they all come with power win/locks standard... are you sure it's a sahara?

I would lean towards the 08 as well. I would offer really low, $16000 or less.

On the other hand, you may be able to find a new 08 X with similar options for 17-18k and you will have the full warranty. I would search a little, dealerships are desperate to make sales.

Welcome to the forum, I hope you stick around.

Never say you don't plan on modding it much, that just makes the Jeep Gods angry.

Don't forget to wave.

08 and up Sahara have all power. In 07 power window and locks were optional. My dad has an 07 with manual locks and windows, but it is a sahara. Go with the 08, especially if you are going to take care of it. It is worth the coin to start off with a well taken care of vehicle. Good luck.

I would go with the 08 if you plan on driving it alot, but if you are only going to drive around your farm, then I would save the money and get the 07 since you probably won't be putting a lot of miles on it.

I appreciate everyone's responses.

The dealer wouldn't drop any off the price on the '08... so I'm still looking.

I'd be curious if anyone has any thoughts on what the market pricing is right now for an 07 or 08 sahara 2dr base setup/softtop/6speed. I may have unrealistic expectations of pulling something off for $14~$16.5k, and it's probably best if somebody lets me know, so I can set my expectations better

Thanks

Default Mission Accomplished

I appreciate everyone's help. I ended up getting a 2008 Rubicon with 50 miles on it for $22k... power group, side airbags, and mygig nav. I'll be the second owner, the first owner owned, a small car lot, he picked it up a couple weeks ago at an auction.

I went by the dealership on the way home... they confirmed by VIN that it is under warranty... although they have the start date as June, even though Carfax does have any activity on the car, and

I'm not going to get the lifetime powertrain warranty, but is there a 7/70 power train warranty or something for second owners or something like that? I swear I read something.

Manufacturer date is late June. Should I change the oil? Any suggestions?

Pretty excited, first Jeep... now I got to remember to wave.

Congrats muggz. Scoring a Rubi with 50 miles on it for 22... nice.

Sure, change the oil. It has been sitting. Makes you feel good and a lil' piece of mind.

I think that's BS you did not get the lifetime power train warranty. What the heck was their excuse there?
