Angry A rumor about getting stuck in the mud?

Me and a friend were going trailing today, and I decided to go through this mud pit and got horribly stuck and the water from the pit was an inch from flooding into my car . But. Afterwards, my friend told me that since I tried to get out, that water was being sucked into my differential and is currently in there. He said because of this I would need to replace my oil and clean the gears. I wanted to know if this is true?

All depends on the breather hose height and set up. Pop the fill plug and check the fluid. If it looks like oil, you should be ok. If it looks like chocolate milk, foamy, etc., there is water in there. You'll want to change it ASAP.

To check the fluid should I just pour a little out and see what it looks like?

You can't just pour it out. Stick your pinky finger in there or siphon it out.

If ya got stuck that deep and bad, ya may as well use this opportunity to change the diff fluids anyway! it's a 2 for 1, ya get new fluids and the piece of mind of not worrying about it. That's what i'd do anyway

It wouldn't hurt to check the fluid like mentioned above. But I think you are alright since you said the water was an inch from coming into your jeep (I am assuming you mean an inch from the bottom of your door). The breather hoses are positioned higher.
