Recently put in a polished alum locking fuel door on my jk And filled up for the first time since. I left the pump in to fill up while I went into the gas station. When I came back to the jeep now full, I got a hell of a shock when I grabbed the pump. Wondering of this is common at all? Sparks and gas fumes don't seem like a good combo

 

NO sparks n gas fumes do not mix. Its static electricity, next time pump the gas first and wait till you finish before walking inside this way you're not building up an static charge.

 

That's why it's illegal in many places here in Canada to have an auto fill at gas station.

 

I have a habit about touching something metal on my Jeep to discharge any static BEFORE I get anywhere near the fuel cap or pump.

 

Many thanks for the replies! Was wondering if I was going to need to wear insulating gloves next time I pump up!!! I'll let everyone know if the problem persists.

 

It is also the reason they say NOT to get back into your car while you are refilling , when you get back out of the car , if you have cloth seats , you can pick up static electricity , and blow yourself up! Touching something metal on the jeep 1st is a good idea , if you can find something that's not plastic!
