Default Royally Screwed By the Dealership...

Well get this... I brought my JK in for some odd clunking noises last Thursday and thought it was the trans or clutch due to me having the throwout bearing issue. I told them specifically "I just want you to look at the clutch and the trans and see if that's the issue. If it's not then don't touch anything else cause I don't wanna pay anything out of pocket." So it's not anything I told them to look at. It's the rear end I had DTS, Drive Train Specialist shop out by me, work on for me but of course the dealership did not listen to me when I told them look at the trans and clutch only. Instead they took off the rear diff cover without telling me, saw that there was damage on the whole assembly and decided to tear it apart and order new 3.21 gears for it.... Well thank God I got a hold of them before they installed new gears. They ended up putting it back together but here's the best part. They said it's not drivable and that since it's not warranty work I need to pay them a $95 service fee for the inspection. Well I guess the fact that my driveshaft was replaced under warranty when they were first inspecting on Saturday just didn't cut it for them. I flipped out on the service manager and told him that I'm not paying for something you guys decided to go against me and do work on. He told me that I needed to tell them that it had new gears to begin with cause now he's taking a $600 hit. I told him that all that could have been avoided if you guys just made one simple phone call before you decided to take it apart. He tried telling me well unfortunately we needed to take out the carrier to look at what happened. So now I told him listen I know how simple it is to take off a freaking diff cover and turn the carrier to inspect it, there was no reason you had to remove the carrier and did you know that it's actually a law that you need permission from the owner to start any work on a vehicle if the work being done exceeds $20. Well now I put him in his place and he's gonna give me a call back to fix the issue for me. I better get my Jeep back for free! I still haven't got a phone call back so I'm just gonna go up there and see what happens. Wish me luck! As for DTS, they told me to bring it up and they'll fix everything for me. I hope I can get it back and running soon cause I miss her! Well for any of you Michigan JKers, make sure you never take your Jeep up to Parkway Jeep in Clinton Twp, MI.

Join the club! I opened a case with Jeep through Chrysler, they are investigating my shoddy dealership now! You should do the same!

The dealerships will do as much as they can to make money off of you.
Little things like replacing the air filter without asking, and charging double for what you can get it for.
Or telling you that you need to get your front and rear diff fluids changed for $600. Getting both done for less than $100 tomorrow.
Good luck with the stealership.

I think I'm going to now .

So I go there and talk to the head service manager and he continues to argue with me. I told him I'm not trying to get this shit for free here, I'm just not paying for something that I told you guys not to touch and all of this could have been avoided with just a phone call anyways. Finally he says whatever we will waive the fee. Then I said is it drivable? Well he tells me no so I asked why because you didn't put the oil in it? He said he refuses to spend another $100 on synthetic gear oil because he already took a huge loss on the vehicle. Seriously?! Well I guess customer service is nonexistent at Chrysler Dealerships... Even after all that I know he still believed his guy's word over mine. So I had the thing towed from the dealer to the Drivetrain Shop because I refused to pay for oil that's just gonna get dumped out anyways. Moral of the story, don't ever take your Jeep to the dealership if you hear noises. I know I could've taken off the diff cover and put the oil back in it so it would drive for FREE!

I never take it to the stealership since they did the same kind of thing, but my girlfriend took in the jeep instead of me() and they knew it so they stuck me with $1200 on stuff that didn't need to fixed or had it done by my mechanic the week before.

My X wife did this one to me once many years ago... she took my old CJ5 to a mechanic for an inspection . Talk about a laundry list of crap that failed... most of it really really stupid. Little crap like a burned out high beam indicator, wipers, headlights misaligned... the only thing he had on their at all that was anything was he tried to claim my tie rods were worn... nope, just fine. He even tried to fail me for my lift and home made shackles... but my lift was a legal lift (Less than 4"), and the shackles were 1/4 plat steel for crying out loud.

Needless to say, I took it to my standard oil change place for the inspection and guess what it passed .

Funny thing is the service manager tried telling me that he was told that someone else brought the vehicle in and that they have permission to do anything they need to. Well that was some bullshit because I was the one who dropped it off and I told them this is only going to be clutch and tranny work, nothing else. Hell he even wrote it down on the invoice.....

I guess I count myself pretty lucky when it comes to dealerships, before any work is done they have the customer sign off on exactly what's going to be done before the vehicle is even touched. If you tell them to not touch something they write it down so there's no excuses (this includes tire pressure). Do they take their time, yes indeed, sometimes what many would consider excessive sometimes, but at least it's done to the customer's satisfaction. And they're very mod friendly, with a lift, new gears, etc... they still honor my lifetime powertrain warranty regardless.

I think there was an extensive write up on here about why you should not retaliate against your dealer...

RED FLAGGED JEEP ring a bell. I totally feel your pain, Ive experienced dealer crap too but just FYI you should read the write up....
