I have a Tundra now and it drives really well, plenty of power and has a 10-10.5k towing capacity depending on the one you get. I went with it because IMO it looks better then any other truck and mainly for its reliability. I have nitto trail grapplers and stock TRD suspension on it and it rides better then my wife's luxury SUV. Gas mileage isn't great but I was used to it from the jeep.

I've never tried taking the top and doors off of an F150.

It's different for different people, but for me, it is a "Jeep Thing." I can never see me, ever, wanting to get rid of my Jeep. Now, adding an F150 to the mix so I can tow the Jeep to wheeling events? Yeah, I can see me doing that. Or maybe getting some other vehicle, if not a truck, as a semi-daily driver, just to save mileage and wear on the tires when the weather is blech.

But as an everyday driver, I love my Jeep. In the early summer, the top and doors come off. Soft doors in the back, just in case it rains. But the hard doors only go back on in the fall.

My plan, hopefully, is to find a pickup that can haul the Jeep, but doesn't have to be new, that I can use daily for whatever. I want to wheel the Rubicon Trail next year, and it's 2,000 miles each way.

I have towed a 257 Cat tracked skid steer with a 3.5 Eco boost. It really pulled it great mileage wasn't too good. Any 3/4 ton diesel would do better but I don't need to move it very often so the F150 does fine and is cheaper to own for daily use.

Loved my ecoboost f150. Scared me shitless everyday waiting for it to pop. Have quite a few friends that kept up with their boosts after selling and all ended up with blown motors around 75k miles. A few made it to 100k or more with no issues, but I never felt like I could trust it. Loved the speed, loved the power, loved the space. Hated the fear of reliability.

Seems pretty plain.

Wrangler (specifically JKU) is a great choice if you:
- drive off-road intentionally
- prefer to drive part of the time with doors and top off
- regularly drive in unimproved roads or other poor surface conditions or where high clearance and 4WD is required
-- sand/beach, hunting/fishing access, "Jeep" or "Fire" roads, etc.

Truck is a better choice if you:
- drive on the road 99% of the time
- need to haul large items
- tow a trailer frequently or a large trailer ever

Sounds like you are a better candidate for the truck. Nothing wrong with that

One specific question : a stock JKU is tested to be able to go through 30" water depth without any problems. Does anyone know how that may compare with a stock F150?

FYI- I started this thread and can't get myself to get rid of my beloved JKU. I'm going to take a breather and revisit my towing plans later in the year.

Default 30"

I'm pretty sure the air box intake is over 30" for an F150. I'm sure you could do it if you drive real slow.

I read up on it. They say it can only be taken up to the wheel hub.

Exactly. They have an intake tube that runs down to the bumper.
