Nah, I'm the one that lives in PA, the original poster is from RI. I don't mind the salt on the road rusting stuff because I love having winter and snow . Plus like you said, its an exhaust, who cares what it looks like I was just saying that the picture of the muffler looks familiar because that is a picture I posted of my muffler in a previous thread where someone from Hawaii posted a picture of their 08's muffler that looked like it was fresh off the factory line. I personally love actually USING my Jeep and feel that scratches, dents, dirt and rust are all badges of honor from a fun and productive vehicle life and actually justifies it when I have to get a new one. My last Jeep I traded in for $600 toward the JK with 200K miles with parts of it sitting in the backseat...but I drove it there so it went out with honor

See you have a perfect positive attitude! This is what a jeep is! I scratched mine within the first week of having it. The scratchs, dents mud all over it, are all badges of honor.

Your absolutely right! I am FURIOUS that my muffler is still hanging on...bloody thing, it shoulda fallen off LONG ago! I mean...how am I supposed to justify getting a gibson dual if the original that was designed to fall off still hasn't ....

Hey, dude, some of us have been doing the "Jeep Thing" since the AMC days, so I don't think that Chrysler has anyone brainwashed. I wasn't going to jump in but, seriously, you live in the Northeastern US, and you have had a (small) hole appear in your mild steel muffler after only a few thousand miles. Supposed to happen? No. Did it? Yes. A hole in a muffler is certainly not on par with the guy who wrote on this forum recently that one of hismain bearings and a rod bearing took a sh*t-- that guy had a real complaint, but the dealer ate most of the cost of that repair. A muffler pales in comparison. It's a muffler, dude.

 

Wow...didn't realize that posting something about poor QC could generate so much discussion...my point was that Jeep needs to step up...in this market, you can't put below average material out, and if you do...compensate where it counts, customer service/relations...

Let me see if I can answer most of the questions...

Yep, I know that it only takes 30 minutes to put an exhaust on...I challenge you to go into a Jeep dealership and have anything done in under 30 minutes...it is the process...

Yes, I get it...it is a "Jeep thing" I have been building 4WDs for about 20 years...and no, I don't give a sh1t if I have scratches or dents on my Jeep when I put them there...

I am saying, for $30K I don't expect to be driving back and forth to the dealership to take care of things that should be good to go for more than 9K miles...

I did try and talk to the dealership and make arrangements...they could not accomidate...they are the only show in town due to the closing of one of the better customer service oriented dealerships, and they can make the rules...got it...doesn't mean I have to like it...

I guess the overarching point was that when you look at what is happening in todays economy, Jeep has put themselves in a great position...with respect to competitive advantage, they have cornered the market...you buy a Jeep because it is a Jeep...unfortunately, companies tend to rely on that type of loyalty to a fault. Maybe I am expected too much from my dealership, I guess I should back off and let them be mediocre....

 

sounds to me like its a dealership issue... which by the way doesnt necessarily happen just to Jeep / chrysler...

my roomate had a Scion XboX.. he has no interest / nor knowledge about whats under the hood of a car.. he has a Service engine light come on at 80k miles.. turns out there was a manifacturing defect in the engine that the cam gears needed replaced... the car still ran fine just would stumble now and then.. I read the codes and it showed up a cam gear..

he took it to dealer to get looked at.. they told him the cam gears were bad, the water pump was leaking, that there was a bad rod bearing, etc etc.. before he called me he had them start on it... they charged him $2000 to fix it.. we asked for the old parts back... had the old parts inspected by a different dealer.. who said the cam gear was bad but shouldve been covered 80% by toyota because it weas defect... water pump was Fine... rod bearing wasnt even from his engine!!! that was a Toyota dealer!..

if your Jeep really has too many issues, hire a lawyer and lemon it.. my 08 had lots of electrical issues that couldnt be solved..

I got a new 09 in march and the only thing its been in for is oil changes and tire rotation....

 

I just queried a 2010...basically it is almost an even trade...I want a 6sp manual, have a auto...we will see....
