You kept your stock muffler for 9000 miles?

Yeah, kept the stock muffler...can't afford to do anything to it right now...and while it is just a muffler, the nearest dealer is 20 and change away, and it is not the dealer I bought the car from...so no loaner...just sucks.

I am guessing that it was condensation build up in the muffler and it just got corroded (sp), I live in Newport, RI, and only drive about 2 miles to get to work, so nothing gets heated up right...not good for too many of the motor parts in general.

Like I said, there were happy to replace...it will just be a PITA to schedule an appointment, haul my a$$ over there to have it fixed. As you can imagine, there are not too many Jeep dealers on Aquidneck Island...I am heading back to civilization (Tampa, FL) April 2010...can't wait.

So you're not only getting the issue resolved, but you also know potentially what contributed to it so what's the issue...I understand your frustrated, but do you really wish you'd never got rid of your FJ? You are on a JK forum just to confirm

Got the JK because it was a convertible 4WD, have had numerous warranty issues since purchase...and yes I do know that I am on a JK forum...just wondering how Jeep/Chrysler plans to stay in business with below average quality control. I guess I just needed to vent, the FJ62 was bullet proof...just not a convertible...

It's important for your vehicle to have a chance to warm up to operating temps regularly. As you have already stated condensation will build up and not have a chance to burn off. Not only is this an issue for your exhaust system but for your engine as well. Just as a reference on my other ride it takes it about 10 miles of moderate driving for the oil to warm up to 210 deg F (operating temp) on a mild day (say 70 deg?).

The stock muffler is designed to have a hole in it (bottom of the outlet side of the muffler right?) This way the condensation does not build up and fill the muffler with water. So if it is a small hole (about 1/8" diameter) it is supposed to be there.
