No, no need.

If I don't speed, I get to be in it more.

Mine is for those little towns where they like to write tickets for doing 35 in a 30 and BS like that not for speeding down the highway.

But my son who got rid of his detector just got a ticket in MD for doing 71 in a 65 while riding in the middle of a pack of cars going the same speed.

He guesses they picked him cause he has NJ plates. There was no other apparent reason. If only he'd kept his detector.

Ah, was it by the MD State Police? If he was in a pack of cars, then his detector may not have saved him. I know some MD cops have radar jammers in their vehicles.

If you were talking about a device that warned you when you exceeded the posted speed limit, yes, but a device whose primary function was to warn you when enforcement was present, NOT!

A decent GPS comes close to being such a device, but the speed limits in the databases are too inaccurate to be reliable.

"Honest, Mr. Virginia state trooper, that radar detector on the dash is to help me be a more responsible driver. It has nothing to do with speeding and getting away with it. I swear."

The honest truth! The day when I tossed mine in the trash was the last time I have EVER received a speeding ticket. They give you a false sense of security.

I have a GPS tracking snooper, that also detects front and rear laser speed guns, as well as warning for the standard TRUVELO and GATSO stationary cameras amongst others

but recently on some of our major motorways new cameras have been intorduced that are present on sections of 20-50mile motorway with several cameras throughout, and monitor speed over 6-12mile intervals, but which intervals are not known to the naked eye, but the snooper db knows

so its an absolute godsend for that alone imo!

and the 1st time I drove the JK without it, a couple of weeks ago, I got a ticked for doin 44 in a 30 (road is normally 70 but there were cones at the side of the road ready to start roadworks the following monday - DOH!)

I have the Passport 8500, its a good detector, never let me down. I haven't had a ticket since I got it. I really only use it on the highway for road trips, though. Its hard to zip around New Orleans in any vehicle, especially a Jeep. The roads here are horribly bumpy, crowded with traffic, and there's always pedestrians all over the place.

Nope....don't really need one....I usually go below the speed limit with doors and roof off....just enjoying the drive and views and the odd vehicle passing by with the middle finger in the air!
