Not enough info in your post to determine the problem.

Put it in 4LO and you shouldn't have to touch your clutch.

Depends on what you have. (2 or 4 door, transmission, gears, tow package)

Could be:
1000
2000
3500

Go to the jeep website and look in the 'For Owners' - Towing Capacity section...

What do you consider a "little boat"? The jeep is only "rated" to tow 3500 for the unlimited. Why did you think you needed 4wd? I have pulled my little utility trailer loaded with 4000lbs around the yard with no issues. No need to use 4wd unless you are spinning the tires.

Okay, this is probably a stupid question, but did you have it on a trailer?
The tow rating is for trailers--the kind with wheels--not for dragging.

Do you have larger tires? If you are in 4L, you don't need the clutch. Once you release it, the tires will start turning and look for traction, especially since you're on grass. You can fully release the clutch and ONLY press the accelerator pedal.
