Question for 2012 owners with 35's
How much power loss have you noticed with stock gears and 35's?(Non-Rubicon models) Do you feel the need to regear? I'm specifically interested in automatic transmission owners. Thank you in advance.

I have a 2012 JKU sport with the 3.73's and mt/r 35's. the power loss was noticable but not enough that I would regear./ i came from a 2011 JKU rubi with 35's and 5.38's and the 2012 is a huge difference even with the stock gears. In other words I will NOT regear. about 70mph I am about 2K rpms and it still has enough power to accel within reason. I am also an automatic

I am a manual transmission guy, not automatic. I live in low altitude but extremely hilly area, steep grades everywhere for both local and highway driving.
But, with my Manual, 4.10 Gears, armor, and 35s I have no plans to regear. It's not needed. My 2012 feels like it has MORE power than my 2007 which WAS regeared.
2007 2-Door Rubicon, 4.88 Gears, Manual, 3.5" Lift, Armor, 35s, Superchips 91 Octane Performance Tune
2012 4-Door Rubicon, 4.10 Gears, Manual, 3.5" Lift, Armor, 35s
My 2012 feels better driving around than the 2007 did. ONLY complaint is 6th gear which Jeep changed the ratio on for the 2012 year, changed it from 0.84 to 0.797 which is better for fuel economy but worse for power. Even though 6th got neutered it's still fine. I imagine if I did decide to regear, I'd only go to 4.56 and it might kick it up a notch more, but it's not needed.

I also have a 2012 JKUR, but its an automatic. Been reading everyone's threads about third lifts, tires exhaust and so on.. I'll soon lift mine as well and add 35's, but I'm just wondering if ANYONE has addressed the issue of weak front axel tubes. Everyone knows its the weak link and there are sleeve mods but I haven't seen that anyone has done any in the 12's yet.. With larger tires and moderate wheeling it'll bend the front axle tubes. Who has addressed this issue..??? I'm wanting to know which one anyone has used so I have some insight of how good.. or good it isn't.. anyone.????

The new Pentastar 3.6L really doesn't out-perform the old 3.8L until 3500+ rpm. The improved gear ratios of the 5sp AT is the real improvement. I run 35's and found that running around town in 3rd gear was the only way to keep the engine above 1500 rpm. I re-geared to 4.88's after 100 miles. Highway speed of 70mph is at 2800 rpm. The PentaStar is a real power-house in the 4000-6000+ rpm range and the only way you're ever going to utilize that power is to re-gear.

I have had a different experience. I had a 2011 rubi with a 6 speed, 4:10's and 35's. The 2012 is an automatic with 4:10's and the same 35's. I can't begin to tell you how much better the 3.6 is. I cruise at around 2400 rpms on the highway and I can pass at will. The 2011 needed some serious clear roads to make a pass. It is MUCH more "torquee" from the beginning to end.
No comparison and no need to regear at all.
