Looking for advice on purchase of 2010 JK 2 dr Auto hardtop with 24k miles. Dealer is asking $21,477. Best they can do is $150 off asking price if paying cash. Seems like they should be able to do better. Said they would drop $500 on price of jk and give $2500 for '92 YJ on trade. YJ has 100k miles but in excellent condition and has all records. I think I could sell for more privately.

A new 13 starts at 22k. With the difference in the engines from a 10 to a 13 I would go new. I have a 10 now and would like to sell it and get a new one. The 3.8 isn't that bad but the 4 speed auto sucks. The new 5 speed is better.

 

If your willing to drive a stick I'd buy new too, the auto option is pricey and might blow your budget. Plus you'll get two more mpg. Used JK's sell very quickly, so I don't think they are trying to dupe you. My salesman told them they sell used(or new)ones in 7 days or less.

 

This one has been on the lot for 45 days. It's my father in law who is buying the jeep. He's set on an auto and hardtop. I thought there was always some room to negotiate on a used car. Cash isn't what it used to be.

I found him a 2dr auto hardtop rubicon for $24k with 19k miles and aftermarket bumpers. He doesn't want red though.

 

Heck you should be able to find a 12 for 22 to 23 same price brand new

 

I walked in to a reputable dealer in SE michigan and dealt with a dealer who's motto to me was "Idc how much I sell a car for, I sell cars. That's how I make commission and I'm going to do what I can to knock the price down. He did what he could and the dealer showed me what he paid for it on trade ($19000) he stated to me that he had to make cash as well as give money to the people who are owed comission. Everything checked out to me and I ended up paying around $25K after financing is done one the same exact window sticker as yours with a full tank and a free undercoat. I absolutely love the jeep but hate the auto. Obivously ill have to deal with it until its paid off but at the same time I know it's a jeep and not a mustang (it's not made to gun from a stopped posission but it'll haul ass in OD) I don't regret my purchase at all. $19950, 29,000 miles

 

Dealers make money on financing. They don't want you to pay cash. There is room to negotiate on the price. Whether or not they do it depends on how you negotiate. Sell the YJ. You're getting way too little on a trade. I will typically check the local auctions (if you know someone with access to the data) and see what dealers are paying for the same model. That will give you an idea of how much mark up they are adding.

 

$21,477 is not a bad price at all. I have a 2010 6spd 2dr sport s package I bought it new for 25k. Today I have 22,227 miles on it, excellent condition and according to Kelly's Blue Book the value is at 24,000. And by the way cash means nothing the dealer only took $1,000 of the price. They rather lease or finance.

 

You should be able to get more out of selling your YJ privately.

 

So I don't know what my father in law ended up paying for the jk but he decided not to trade his yj. He picked up his jk last week. He's very happy with it. This week I'm buying his yj from him. I did a lot of the work on it so I know it's history. Meticulously maintained. I think it needs a lift and tires though. Thanks for the advice.
