I have a similar issue, it only happens when turning the wheel in one direction, not very loud at all, I can feel it more than hear it.
Same thing, I can feel it rather than hear it. It's not really loud

Does your 2nd to 3rd hard shift happen only when you are heavy on the throttle?
Yes, it happens only when I'm heavy on the throttle

Don't drive on roads with it in 4 wheel drive.
I only use the 4 wheel drive off road

'08 2dr X, auto

No issues at all, even under heavy throttle.

That ticking could be the steering knock. There is a thread on how one guy fixed his with 5th wheel grease injected in the boot.

I have had a couple of rather violent upshifts (Auto). I think it might be partly due to the electronic throttle control and the transmission shift program in the computer. I think both times, I was quick on and off the gas....and if you get the RPM just right, the computer says shift...and it does....and I was off the gas right as it shifted and caused some quirky action. THats my take on it. Its only happened twice...not recently, and I have a lifetime warranty.
