Default Price of D44 Rubicon Axles

I see these forsale often for ridiculous prices, and I'm just wondering do people not know that mopar now offers them NEW for much cheaper? $2400 for a Front D44 locker/4.10 BRAND NEW. They will even sell them with 4.88 for $500 more.

I see people selling them for 3k+ used, and buyers offering $2,500+. So what gives?

So this wouldn't necessarily explain all of it, but here are some examples. At least for me, if I were to sell mine, I also have axle sleeves and C-gussets. So there is an upgrade not included in the axles in the sheet. Certainly the end buyer can do that themselves at their monetary and time expense. Additionally people may have upgraded to chromoly axle shafts. Again, increases the value depending on what you have. Front RCVs are around $1200 I think. Also the original owner may have spent $100 or so on an aftermarket diff cover and lube lockers.

So the point is that it can add up. Maybe it explains the cost difference.

Also note that those axles do not include brakes. So add more to the cost for that.

If $2500ish isn't a bargain for low mile Rubicon D44 takeout front and rear complete axles, then what is?

It is. But if sellers are asking $3500 or $4500, it ain't such a great deal. Especially if they are just take offs with no upgrades.

There was an eBay seller out of Cincinnati that was selling crate fronts for $1850.

Great guy, he even let you pick your gear ratio. He quoted me about a year ago $1875 4.56/elocker shipped to my front door

Im guessing most people dont know plus there is usually a negative stigma associated with buying from Mopar. I bet if you walked into the dealership, you would be quoted higher than those numbers. (I was for 60s)

As someone mentioned, resale value tends to swing a lot once modifications are done. I have built 44s for sale right now that are about the same as a pair of these new. The draw is all the labor to beef them up is done.

I don't know for sure but I'm assuming yes. But if we are referring to the set of axles that were recently for sale on the forum, they did include brakes, whether you want/need them or not. So, I dunno. I'm just saying that would change the price.
