ok today i was in a lake haha and my muffler went under water and i noticed my rpms startedd articulating up and down
im not sure if it was water going into the muffler or if it was just becuase it was bubbling but i need to know before i do this agian
o yeh it was the best way to clean the underside of my jeep haha

your fine. as long as you didn't suck up water (which it wouldn't start) your fine.

so you cant really hydrolock your engine from the exhaust or what

I don't see how it would be possible. I've run many a vehicle with the tail under water for long periods of time without a problem. They do call it exhaust don't they?

yeh i just didnt want to have any problems and i thought it was weird my rpms started bouncing when my muffler went under water

I believe that is just the back pressure caused by the tail pipe being under water.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think you can get in trouble starting the Jeep if the tail pipe is under water, but you'll be fine all day with it running and underwater.

i was just told water going down the pipe could hydolock my engine and that i should never let my engine idle with my pipe under water

You'll be fine as long as the engine is running. If it stalls you need to start it right away. The only time it can suck water in, is if you leave the engine off a while. The cooling parts and fumes will contract causing it to suck in water. As long as you start it right away, and don't let it cool down, you'll be ok. I've been in this situation more times than I would like, and never had any sort of water getting in the engine.
