Plz help: Need new latch for JK glovebox thx to burglar
Hey guys, new to the forum.
Last summer I had a burglar break in through my soft top. Thankfully, he didn't knife it, but he did break the latch to my glovebox trying to get in it.
I went to a Jeep dealership and they wanted in upward of $150 to fix it -- wasn't about to drop that.
Anyone know where I can buy the latch myself? Are they easy to install? Anyone have any other ideas other than the velcro strips I've been using, lol?
Below are photos for reference. Thanks!

Welcome to the forum! Sorry it's not on better terms.
Based on your pictures, it looks like you have a 2007-2010 JK. The junkyard suggestion was a good one. Here are some other options.
You can get the OEM latch for about $35:
h t t p://moparonlineparts.com/repair-parts/jeep/wrangler/2010/instrument-panel/glove-box/latch/
Or you can get the whole OEM glove box (excluding the lock cylinder) from Amazon for about $60:

For what the dealer would charge you, you could get the Tuffy Security Glove Box:

This fix worked on my wife's mini cooper box for over 2 yrs now. Basically use high power neodymium magnets available at a hardware store. They are typically round about 3/8" diameter and 1/8 thick. Incredibly strong holding power when two discs are put back to back. I found about 4 areas where I could cement magnets onto the door and mating magnets on the frame. Prep the area with light sanding and acetone. Use a good quality superglue to glue the magnets on taking care of getting polarity correct

Thx!
Dude, thanks much! Going to order the latch for $35... hopefully it's not too difficult to install.

I'd vote for that too. The magnets have worked on the mini but I definatly would have bought a new latch for $35 if I could. The mini glovebox is up around $175 to buy the part.
