People like big cars, people like big houses. You gonna go after big houses next? How about big vacations, big boats, big TVs. Are we just going to legislate everything that can effect GW? Beef production is a horrible producer of CO2 per Calorie versus vegitables. Can the US government determine how much beef you can eat, or mandate that you become a vegan?
I personally think that drinking Starbucks coffee is a monumental waste of resources to the tune of over $8 billion a year. How about we start drinking $0.25 cups of coffee and use the spare change to cure cancer, or save the world.
We tried small cars, people hated them and went to the exempt SUVs and light trucks. If you open a loop hole in the CAFE standards for small businesses, everyone is going to become a part-time carpenter.
Using CAFE standards to cure CO2 emissions is like using smaller beer bottles solve drunk driving.

Gas guzzlers will have to go. Doesn't matter if you like it, or not. The world is full of selfish people that care only about their own wants and needs. Oil will someday go away, and each of you "could" still be around. If not, your kids/grandkids prob'ly will be, so suck it up, and try to use some common sense on the subject.
For those worried about muscle cars, be flexible....I've had bikes capable of low 10's @130 mph 1/4 mile times, and they'd STILL get 40mpg if you rode 'em with even a LITTLE common sense. That, is your solution for speed.
You're welcome!!

I don't think people as a rule are against improving fuel effeiciency and alternatives. What they don't want is taxed and legislated into oblivion.
