Plastic dip question

I left my wheels on... well except for my spare, I sprayed that flat on the ground so I could see if it came out any better than the wheels that were left on my jeep. They came out great, now that I have rotated my tires a few times, I can't tell which wheel was removed from my jeep to be dipped. I used a bunch of plastic shopping bags to mask/wrap the brakes and used painter's tape to tape off the lugs. Don't worry about masking the tires, the over-sprayed dip rolled of the tire. Take your time and use many light coats and your wheels will come out great.

...not necessarily. I did mine with the wheels on. I stuffed plastic bags behind the wheels to cover the brakes. Lug nuts got plasti-dipped as well. A few months later my shop rotated my tires. Lug nuts are still covered with only minor scratches that you have to look up close to see.

I did with the wheels off. Flat on the garage floor. Put quarters in the lug nut holes. They fit perfectly. I applied 2 heavy coats and it turned out great. Smooth, even and in 3 months has not peeled or anything. I also did not mask the tires off at all. Just sprayed at an angle and yes there was plenty of everspray but it just naturally peels off as soon as you start driving around and flexing the rubber.
I think it looks cool with the lugnuts not being dipped.
