Default P0513 - Invalid Skim Key

Question....

How in the hell do BOTH of my keys get "dumped"....?

i WAS up at the hospital near the "radiology" department... would that do anything to my keys...????

anyway, my jeep would start a couple of times, run for a few seconds... die and have the little red light over the temp guage flashing...

then the red )%( symbol on the dash lit up. then it wouldnt do shit but light up the guages... and i'd get the P0513 code....

so... what is it going to take to get this issue straight..?

it took 3 hours to get towed and "dumped off" at a stealershit that i dispise.

how long will it take for those bone heads to figure it out...???
i did leave all my keys... incase they need reprogramming, but they are normal keys, i dont have the keyless entry or anything... no alarm no nothing...
i'm confused.

HELP......???

While you were in the radiology dept were you near an MRI machine? The MRI machines have a very strong magnetic field and could possibly distort or erase the electronic signal the keys have.

It sounds like you may not be familiar with the electronic signal that our keys have. All the keys for Wranglers now are electronically encoded, so not only do you have to have the correct key to start your Jeep, you also have to have a chip that's inside the plastic part of your key and is coded to match your JK. If the code is erased, which as Robar was saying it likely was from the MRI machine, your JK won't start until it is re-programmed. It's an anti-theft protection. It's also the reason that your JK waits half a second before it starts to turn over after you've turned the key in the ignition. It's reading that chip.
If you have a copy of your key made, it would need to be a copy with a chip in it, and then taken to the stealership to be coded. If it doesn't have the chip, it's nothing more than a key to unlock the doors and listen to the radio.

oh just beautiful....

but i was only in the pharmacy.... why would our keys be so damn sensitive?

i DID leave all the keys i had with me at the service department.
so, how long would this usually take to "reprogram"...?
i wouldnt think it would be more than a few minutes...

but then, its a "dealership" and i am sure they will take their sweet ass time.

what a total crock....
