Which one to buy? Rubicon vs. Sahara

If you do go rubicon I'd get the 07-09. Unless you would rather have the new interior. Then go 11 (since u said a 12 isn't in the cards) I would stay away from a 10 because it's the same as an 09 but will cost more.

i'd go with the rubicon if you're off roading includes some steep hills now and then or an obstacle now and then. with the lower crawl ratio you can do the hills slower, and safer, and when you do come up to an obstacle where lockers help, they make it a lot easier, and safer, to do.

It all depends on how much time you will spend off road.
If you won't spend much time and plan on keep the stock wheel.....don't waste the money on parts and features you won't use.....especially if you would be better off with LSD instead of lockers.
But if you plan on going off-road...or building it up.....get the Rubi.

I have a Sahara and gone thru a few diamond trails. Did I keep up with RUBIs? Yes. Was it slightly tricker for me? Yes. With the sahara u have limited slip which is a huge help. Would I like a locker? Of coarse. Did I have an extra $8k, no. Can I buy one for $1k, yes. Will you scratch the painted fenders? I did. Will the sahara steps work as rock rails? I have put the whole weight ofthe vehicle on them and they have many scratches on them and they flex, but it beats no protection at all. If u go thru mild trails- go Sahara, and build up as u get more into the sport. Just my $0.02

Go big or go home! I always said "Oh, I'll just build it up". Thing is, building it up is awesome but you lose your warranty, sometimes things go wrong and you mess up your paint or dent something. Go rubi and dont look back. This way you know you're getting a trail beast and probably wont even need to change anything on it.

You DO NOT LOSE YOUR WARRANTY when you mod. Legally they can refuse to warranty something that they can prove your modifications caused, but they cannot just void your warranty because you put on different wheels or a lift kit
Granted, your warranty isn't going to cover your modded parts, but everything else will still be covered.
The amount of misinformation on this subject is sad.

I purchased a Sarah in 2010, when i started my mods, i wished i had just bought the Rubi...but now changed thoughts again: i plan next rig will be an 'X' with power locks/windows then i plan to build it up with my own choices. axles, lockers, tires, wheels, etc... I will enjoy spec'in out my own rig, rather than stock anything.
With my current mods, for example, I realized that i like truetrac i installed better than an E-locker that could only be engaged in 4 low, like the stock Rubi has.
but if you're buying used, what is the typical $ differential from a used sahara to a used rubi?

Sorry man, didn't mean to 'offend' anyone.. Just my opinion on the situation, but everybody is different.
