Odd squeaking coming from rear of JK
#11
I am getting the same sound on my 2010 with 46,000 miles on it I had a driver side rear wheel bearing replaced about two months ago and the sound started about two weeks ago. I do have an appointment tomorrow to have the wheel bearing checked again. I have not checked my brakes yet being that I would think they would be good for a while still but will do so tonight. I will post my findings as well as check in to see what you come up with as well.

If it is brakes, they really are one of the easiest things to do yourself. One of the first mechanical things of any kind I did was change brake pads (drums on the other hand suck). I'm not much with a wrench, but owning a Jeep has made me better. If your not sure how, check YouTube.

I checked the brakes and I am in need of changing them out the little indicator tab is rubbing so I am having it taken care of tomorrow. So that is what is wrong with mine probably what is going on with your rig too.

Brake pads look good. We've isolated the sound to the rear drivers side but still haven't found the culprit.

It may be time to get out a mechanic's stethoscope and start probing around. Do a visual for any small pebble that might be hung up in the caliper/pads. Also look for shiny spots that could indicate parts rubbing.

That is 100% correct. Once pressure is applied to the little tab that vibrates (when you press the brakes), the tab no longer can vibrate. It's being pushed too hard into the disk surface for it to do so. Think of fingernails dragged across a chalkboard. The pressure must be just right for it to make that wrenching sound we all hate. Too little, too much, the sound isn't there.
I dont always drive where others cant. but when I do, its in my Jeep. Stay muddy my friends

Bounced around on the bumper for a while this afternoon.. Shook the back end trying to find the source.. No luck. But whatever we did, the squeak is gone. That's all I really wanted!

I hope you figure out what it is. I did find out while doing the bakes today that the caliper was partially seized which is why my drivers rear wore out faster then the rest. I ended up having to replace it I was not able to get it to budge. replacing the caliper and pads solved my problem.
