New brakes at 26000??
I went to the dealership for a oil change the other day and they told me i only had 2mm left on my REAR brakes, i kinda laughed and said what , and he said that they are in the "Red Zone" and needed to be changed. He told me i could buy the brakes somewhere else and do them myself if i liked but they just needed changed. Has anyone else had this problem on theirs with only 26,000 miles on it?

26k is not to shabby.....just replace them with better ones. It's easy to do yourself. They will last you twice as long anyways.....
And I'm sure you meant "brakes" on the Jeep.
NOT, "get back to work, woman, your taking to many "breaks"!

I've got 50K on my brakes and just checked them the other day and still good to go. But, the rears are wearing faster than the fronts--much faster. Some have suggested on the forum that much of this is due to the nature of the computerized braking used by the ESP/TCS/etc--there's a lot of braking action going on even when you're not stepping on the pedal. Undoubtedly, it also depends on the way you drive (do you brake like there is an egg shell between your foot and the pedal, or is the brake pedal an on/off switch to you?), and where you drive (sand really eats up pads). My son's pick-up, which I put 120K on before giving it to him, is approaching 150K and will need brake pads for the first time. But, it doesn't have any of the computerized braking systems, I'm a very mild driver (most of the time, LOL), and it's never done much off-roading.

I've seen pictures of Mark fording in the water... that's the reason his brakes last so long LOL. Seriously if you ''slip'' the rear wheels on a wet or loose surface the computer thinks you are in a skid and will apply the brakes, mostly rear without you being aware.

40K+, changed the rear set only. Dealer wanted little over $100 labor plus the price of the OEM pads.
Autozone under $80 for rear pads and 30-45 mins later...Done. Plus, free replacement pads for life. Just bring in your old worn pads and they'll hand you a new set.

Brakes....as they are spelled....are a wear item, go figure ....depending on your driving habits/style coupled with all the new traction control electronics, I would say your at about norm for replacement
