No one is crazy for feeling like they should get 20 or more mpg's from their 12' jk sport. Not only do I average 20 mpg's as a DD, I've gotten as high as 25mpg's. I don't know how the hell I've gotten high mpg's except for because I hit over 100mph on the interstate 2 weeks after ownership.

I'm not condoning speeding on the highway but driving conservatively may be the reason why people are averaging 14 to 17 mpg's. I'm not the only one on this discussion board that has hit 20 mpg's or better in a 12'.

Same hear with the crappy gas mileage.. 11mpg mostly city on 2012 JKU. It only has 400 miles so hopefully it gets better. Running 33's. Heavy and no aero you can't expect much.

Thank you. All I have to say is if you want higher mpg's, then you're going to have to stick with stock-sized tires with more aggressive tread rather than getting 35's or bigger.

I got great gas mileage in my 07' sahara too but I stayed within the 285 18" tire size. Mud bogging fun did not suffer either. On a trip from alabama to miami (1000 miles) I only used one more tank of gas than I would have used in my Acura on the same trip.

Would this matter of you had an auto transmission or 6spd manual? I'm assuming it all matters how hard you push it, but just curious.

To improve your day-to-day mpg look up "hyper-miling" techniques or check this wiki out: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fuel_ec...zing_behaviors

Essentially, almost everything that makes a jeep "cool" goes against it being efficient.

Just a simple lift with tires and wheels drains economy potential.....
- Wider or taller tires(frontal area/aero drag/rotational mass/static weight)
- Heavier tires or wheels(rotational mass/static weight)
- Aggressive treads(aero drag)
- Lifts(more frontal area/aero drag/static weight)
- Exterior accessories(aero drag/static weight)

Some simple things to improve economy....
- Inflate your tires properly for street use
- Alloy wheels instead of steel
- Keep the wheel size on the smaller end, 16's or 17's
- Narrower/shorter tires reduce static weight/rotational weight/aero drag/and rolling resistance
- Minimize exterior accessories and cargo load when not in use
- Accelerate slowly/steadily
- Coast when possible/anticipate when momentuum can be beneficial
- Slow down. 60mph instead of 80mph can make a big difference in the long run

In my experience, aggressive driving habits will reduce your day-to-day mpg as much as 25% or more, and hypermiling techniques can improve them by about as much.
However, the heavier and more aggressively modified your JK is the lower your base mpg is going to be.

Just turn off your tracking sh*t and fill it up when it's empty. Take off the top and love life.

Having owned a Prius for 4 years before this and striving for upper 50's for mpg, I die a little inside every time I read Jeep owners discussing mileage. Are you getting 8 mpg? Let's talk. Are you getting 13 or more... Just friggin drive already.

Jeep MPG threads kill kittens, too.
