Not sure where the wires go, but its under the steering column. The Jeep was a dealer trade, so the dealer I purchased it from says the other dealer put it on, and says it must be an alarm.

If it were an alarm shouldn't there be something to arm and disarm it with like an extra fob?

our keys have a programmable chip inside that's required in order for the vehicle to start (so somebody can't start your vehicle with just a copy). in order for the remote start to work, the matching coded chip must be within a certain range of the ignition in order for it to continue running for longer than like 2 seconds. that's most likely what that is.

we had an aftermarket remote starter kit professionally installed last year on my wife's dodge ram and they had to add a similar device in order to bypass the programmable key requirement. bet that's what it is...

It's a modern day flux capacitor. Yes my friend, you have the ability to travel through time!! It's just too bad that 3.8 under the hood will take forever to bring your rig to 88mph..

May the force be with you.. Always...

I bet on tracking system. Some finance companies have taken to wiring these little doo dads in to keep track of their investment. The button pad is used for reposession purposes. using a certain button procedure you should be able to start the car and drive it. I bet the previous owner had a 3rd rate lender and they installed this to keep track of it. I won't hurt any to disconnect it but make sure you seal up your wires for deep water crossings.

It's the alarm the dealer installed and hopefully you didn't pay for!

I've got factory remote start and don't have anything like that. I do have the shitty switch pin under the hood like was pictured. They added it at the dealer when installing the remote start.
