So the yakima wouldn't be okay with a say km2 35? the 35x12.5 one?

I haven't found many aftermarket tire cariers that the Yakmia would work on. I think you are asking for a lot of trouble if you plan to run the stock carier with a 35 and bikes.

Since moving to the or-fab carrier, I am back to looking at trailer hitch stlye racks that extend far enough to clear it/

I have a 2 door and use a hitch mount rack with an extension, this is the only way to clear my 37 on the back. It seems to work well so far. I picked it up on craigslist for $30 and got the extension at uhual for 20 i think.

As far as not hanging a bike by the top tube: would you ride a bike that can't support it's own weight by the top tube?

Sure, no problem. The CF frame tubes handle the loads of being ridden just fine; but the top tube isn't designed to support the weight of the whole bike bouncing down the road on a rack. Personally I like titanium better though - just wish I had one!

Yeah, I think I'll have to buy the hitch mount rack now then.

I want to see some tech on this. Or are you arguing based on conjecture? Is there any evidence to support this remark?
