Okay-- you guys have got me. So, what's the scoop, here? I'm in L.A., 2 hours from the nearest border, I'm a sucker for turquoise water and my Spanish ain't half bad. I've always wanted to hang out on the Sea of Cortez but never really knew where/when/how to go. Point me in the right direction.

The shots above were from Rocky Point Sonora Mexico. It is my understanding that some new super highway is supposed to run from either San Diego or possibly LA over there.

Rocky Point is also known as Puerto Penasco. Not certain timeframe for build but here is how we get there from Tempe...we head south to Gila Bend and then south on 85 to Lukeville (border crossing) then south on 8 to Rocky Point. Some drive it from Phoenix in 3.5 hours - us in the motorhome usually take about 4.5.

Found a pdf link http://www.rockypointtravel.com/images/california.pdf that looks like you 'd take basically the same route until that new road goes in.

Great shrimp. A lot of fun and great beaches. The new "Sandy Beach Resort" area has been compared to Cancun (I've not been so can't say) but it is VERY nice.

We are usually there for about a weekend a month between Oct and June!
