Muddy engine bay...
Hey guys what's the best and safest way to clean your engine? Went mudding last weekend and it's a complete mess under the hood. I had a TJ that I used to power wash but I am new to the JK's so I wasn't sure what type of cleaner to use and if I should power wash it. Thanks for any help.

Wow, and I thought mine was muddy. I always get a little nervous when spraying anything under the hood, but supposedly a little water can't hurt these things. I first plugged the intake and sprayed the bay while cool with a low pressure nozzle, sprayed a shit load of simple green, let sit, rinse, repeat as necessary.

What some people reccomend to do is get one of those sprinklers that move back and forth, and just put it under the engine bay for an hour, and come back and pressure wash it. Hope that helps

Soak down with Simple Green(or similar).
Cover battery and electrical components with garbage bags.
Power wash from a distance to reduce power, being careful near electrics.
Wipe down as needed.
An air-dried 50/50 Armor-All/water blend on a clean/dry engine bay will make clean-up the next time it gets muddy a little easier.

I use anything like simple green or purple power. I just take a simple spray bottle and spray the engine down, let it sit for a little while and then i spray it off with a hose. It doesn't get the engine spotless but it cleans it up enough to get the dirtyness off. You may need to apply a prespray first before you use it to get any big chunks off.

I just put a bag over the air intake and power wash away in the self wash bays. I also try to avoid spraying directly into the alternator or anything that looks "sensitive" with all these electric gadgets these days.
