Missed Opportunity
I bought an 08 Commander with the new 4.7 this weekend. It has 305 hp....so much more fun to drive than the JK....at least on the road....
Chrysler should have really offered this engine in the JK. I love my JK, but after driving the Commander all day, I'm a little worried I'll be disappointed with the JK in the morning on the way in to work.
I would like to see someone come up with a conversion kit to adapt the new 4.7 in to the JK (or perhaps there is already a kit for this).

I think they are using the Hemi engines on those conversions. I think the 4.7 would be a little more affordable and more in reach for those wanting a little more power.

I couldnt agree more - I have a WK with a 5.7 Hemi and its great, but I drive my inlaws XK all the time too and it has the 4.7l v8. The 4.7 is more affordable and would be a great power addition to the JK. Hopefully in time we'll see harnesses for a lot of engine adaptations.

We've only got 150 miles on the Commander so far, and it says we are getting 12 mpg right now. It has been all city drving, and I've been a little heavy on the gas - just with the excitement of having some power again. Getting ready to take it on a road trip this week, so I will be interested to see the mpg on the highway. I average about 16.5 in the JK.
