Personally, even if I got 100 mpg, I'd still want to know how to get 101. Nothing wrong with having your cake and eating it, too!

With what your plan and intentions are I would get a manual. Find a 07 with the tow package and manual transmission. Most came with 4.10 gears. I'm running 4.10s with a manual and I have zero complaints. Drives way better than it ever did stock. Believe it or not I am pulling 15-18 mpg in town and 20-24 highway on 35s.

Well I'm planning on getting a Rubicon, so doesn't that guarantee 4.10 differentials? And how do you tell if its 4.10 vs something else?

Now on the highway home I was in 5th going around 60mph at just under 2K, and with my "ECO ON" was aveaging just over 19mpg.

It's only been 48 hours sence I put my tires on and so far I like them. The fam and I are going down to Champaign this weekend and that's about 330mi round trip. The challenge will be can we make it on 1 tank.

As far as auto Vs. Stick. I love being able to put it in what ever gear I want and have it stay there. I had a 2001 XJ auto on 31's and that thing was always in the wrong gear at the wrong time. Even shifting myself was pointless because 1st and 2nd were the same spot on the shifter. That left me with a bad taste for autos. I belive the 2012's now have a 6speed auto but I know you said you were looking at 07, 08s. So that being said if you dont mind having three pedals and being cool I'd go for the manual.
Thanks again, I have the 3.21 and was nervous about going to 35's, I'm running the 32 rubi takeoffs now and just think it needs a bigger tire to look right and I don't have a ton of extra cash to regear right now.

2011 and prior the 4:10s were standard on Rubicons. 2012-13 automatic Rubis: 3:73s are standard and 4:10s are optional. 2012-13 manual trans Rubis: 4:10 is standard.

Well then I don't have a problem then. I only wish I could afford a 2012. But if that were the case I don't think I would've started this thread because the automatic in the 2012-13s has a 5 speed. That's normal. The 4 speed is what scared me.

Manual, but it still bugs me that my 6 speed whips around like a stick in a blender when I'm bouncing over a rough road.

Why Jeep? WHY?
