Mall Crawlers

Totally agree about this forum vs. JKO and WAL in regards to attitudes in regards to Mall Crawlers. WF, I can take it or leave it but yeah, definitely diverse.
If it's any consolation, I used to see the term "Mall Crawler" thrown around in a derogatory manner by many on this forum in the past when it was owned by the WAL folks. Now, I see people often on this forum using the same term describing how they prefer to use and modify their Jeep and most long time regulars are pretty helpful in lending a hand of advise around here. That's the best way to squish a derogatory term, by embracing it instead of taking it personally. There will always be those A-holes that want to act like they're an elitist over others. Just remember there's usually a reason for them to have to do that and it's called SPS.
It reminds me of the time when I was shopping around to purchase my JKU. I talked to this woman (and I use that term loosely) at my work, that owned a lifted/modded TJ and talked a lot of talk about her Jeep. Thinking, we would have a common tie, I stopped by to talk to her and said I was considering buying a JKU. Her immediate response was, "Oh, you mean that 4 door station wagon with the mini-van engine in it?". She continued to go on an on and bash on the JK Wrangler. Needless to say, I haven't talked Jeeps with her since and I'm pretty confident my JKU would have no problems keeping up with her lifted TJ on 33's with lockers that hasn't likely seen a dirt road and definitely hasn't done any rock crawling to justify her necessity to boast about it having lockers. She even got in an accident and totaled the TJ and turned around and replaced it with an identical one. For some reason she just despises the JK and tries to put herself on a higher level than us lowly JK owners.

Unless you own your own fab shop, cut sheets of metal and welded them together... you didn't build your Jeep.
The correct thing to say is "I bolted all my Jeeps aftermarket equipment on."
Yes I bought all the pieces, drilled, cut and bolted all the aftermarket equipment on My Jeep.
Everyone Mall crawls.... I drive mine to the mall to see other Jeeps there. I Even park next to them if I can.
I'm not a going to put anyone into that bucket. A Jeep is a Jeep.
But if you put Dana 60's, full float manual locking hubs, PSC hydro steering, 42's, decked out monster Jeep with the works and it's never seen a trail...... I might want to call you a mall crawler.... But I won't... I'll Just steal it from the Mall take it to a OHV park and let it run free!!!!!
It's your Jeep do what you want.... Just can see spending money on Cromo's.... Lockers, bead lock wheels, Super swamper tires and never take it off road...... seems like a waste to me..

I will say that if you do build your jeep up and don't take it wheelin you are missing out. I personally don't fully understand spending all that money just for looks, but thats just me, I want to use what i build. Ultimately it is entirely up to you to do what you choose.
My concern is the non- off road users will out number the off-road users and they will come out with independent suspensions on Jeeps.
In the end it is your jeep, do with it as you will.
How many Ferrari owners actually race their cars?

I agree with this. Why buy a Jeep to not use it off-road? They are overpriced, drive horrible. Terrible gas mileage. Break down a lot.

That said, to flip the coin to the other side on your comment 'Why buy a jeep if not to use it off-road?' - others may say why buy something that is overpriced and then beat it up on trails and rocks?
Personally, I don't care how another person spends their money... it's theirs to spend the way they like.

Nah, she was talking about both. She said the "new" Wranglers were nothing but Dodge Caravans, with a Jeep body thrown on top of a Caravan chassis with a minivan engine in it and lacked any off-road capability. She went on to say, that if I really wanted a JK, that I should save myself some money and just go buy the Dodge Caravan instead since it's the same vehicle.

Oh, wait - the whole square headlight thing - YJs aren't real Jeeps, only CJs are.....
I like them all and look at them all, granted some make my eyes bleed but I still look and appreciate the owners choices (and sometimes courage) in how they build and use their Jeep.
