Low Fuel

Yeah, it changes to "Low" instead of a number when you get down too low because it is not accurate and it doesn't want you trusting that you've got 5 miles left just because it says you do. If it did show you a number, that number would be wrong... and then you'd be really pissed.

My manual says "approximately" 22.5 gallons for the 4-door, 18.5 for the 2-door.
Keep in mind the DTE is estimated. From the manual:
Estimated Range (DTE)
This display shows the estimated distance that can be
traveled with the fuel remaining in the tank. This estimated
distance is based on the most recent trip information:
(Average Fuel Economy) x (Fuel Remaining)
So, if you hot-foot it to the gas station when it said you have 5 miles left, you would probably run out about 1/2 mile short!

I'm a little disappointed Chrysler dropped the ball on this one. I have the base model X, which does not have the DTE reading. Instead, I have a simple low fuel light that comes on when I have about 4 gallons left.
Now, I also own an SRT-4, and one feature I really like about that car is they way it handles low fuel. When I hit about 3 gallons left, the usual low fuel light turns on. But what I really like is what happens when i have .5 gallons left. The low fuel light actually starts blinking, and the dash beeps multiple times. I really wish the Jeep would do something like this. Honestly, it drives me nuts, cause the lowest I've ever had left in terms of fuel was still about 1.5 gallons. This is with the needle BELOW the E line! I honestly get nervous to try to let it go much lower, but thats still way too much fuel left.
I don't know....seems like such a simple thing they could have thrown in.

When my JK was stock (except for the CAI) I drove over 50 miles after the low fuel light came on. Haven't tried it again tho after putting on the new wheels and tires. But indeed it does come on waaaaay too early.

We don't do the fuel chicken out here in Montana. There are places where you can drive a hundred or more miles without a fuel stop. I've started carrying a couple of 5 gal. cans on my swing away, just to make sure I can always get home.
