First and most importantly, thank you for your service!
A few weeks ago Tammy and myself took the 2 door Rubicon (see below for mods) up to Tango's place to get the soft top.
It was about 475 miles there and a bit more back. It was, simply put, a wonderful and scenic drive, and Tammy found the ride very comfortable.
At the higher speeds of the interstate, the Rubicon has plenty of power in 6th with the 4.10 gears, and downshifting was infrequent. On 111 coming back, there are a few long steep hills, easily handled by 4th and then 5th gears when you get your speed up.

Long Jeep Ride
I vote for the jeep. My family and I took the week off between Christmas and
New Year, just past.My wifes father lives in Willow Springs, Ms, so I loaded
up the wife, twin 15yr old boys and our Beagle And headed to the cold
leaving 70 Degree to see20's and 30's. We live in the Tampa, Fl. area.
The trip was alittle over 1k each way. I've got an 07 Wrangler Unlimited,
4:88's, 3" Tera Lift, 35" Cooper SST's, full doors and a soft top. was a great
trip, average 16mpg. The only complaint came from the back passangers,
the back seat is to hard, I said BOO-HOO.

To echo some others here...Thank you for your service!
I am a native Mississippian (Petal/Hattiesburg) and drove my Jeep from Northern VA home and back twice as well as to Parris Island and back. It was stock, had two kids, and wife (at the time she was anyway).
No problems, and was fairly comfortable, just invested in some DVD players for the kids, a stack of movies and off we went.
Stay Safe!!
